![]() ![]() When it wants you to go down, find the deepest well and descend it. ![]() how similar structures (like the well) appear in different time periods.ģ.5 - at times tedious, but overall a fascinating set of themes, settings, and characters. I believe that's why this book is also tied so strongly to history. We keep going back to these places as we read, and one thing this novel does really well is express that feeling that we get when we go back to places we used to know and see them changed. the alley, the well, the abandoned house (that turns into a cube structure), the hotel room. This is done by revisiting places over and over. For example, the idea of places/situations having "flow." But the idea that really strikes me is the novel's way of having the reader revisit places to see how these settings have changed. While the book itself wasn't perfect in its execution in some places (a novel that's overall too full, too unwieldy), some of the themes it touches upon are still fascinating to me, and it portrayed these themes very well. It's been a year since I've read this and I still find myself thinking about it from time to time. ![]()
